A short intro to TechSydney

Our mission in one line:

Helping Sydney become the most desirable place on earth to grow a tech company.

A longer description:

Tech Sydney is an entrepreneur-led industry group that connects, supports and promotes the tech industry in Sydney.

We’re committed to making Sydney one of the most desirable places in the world to have a high-growth tech company. Our community is bursting with ideas, drive and talent - we want to see it take its place at the top.

To build a great ecosystem, we have to support everyone in it and provide them with the right conditions to succeed. To achieve this, we’re working with the industry, federal, state and local government, media, business and Australians everywhere.

We understand the power of technology to create change and we’re committed to working to ensure everyone sees the benefits of our industry.

Fast Facts about TechSydney and Sydney’s tech ecosystem

64% of Australian tech start-ups are based in Sydney.

In 2013, Google commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) to produce a report on the Australian start-up ecosystem. The resulting report found that with the right conditions, tech could be the driving force of the Australian economy and a major job creator by 2033.

TechSydney was founded in 2015 in response to an international benchmarking report finding that Sydney had slipped down the tech ecosystem global rankings from 12 to 16. The tech community identified a need for an industry group to help reverse this slide and support Sydney to become a Top 10 ecosystem – and TechSydney was born.

TechSydney’s co-founders include Dean McEvoy (now CEO of TechSydney), Mick Liubinskas, Kim Heras, Riley Batchelor and Gen George.

We raised over AU$500,000 in crowdfunding from the Sydney tech industry in one month.

It’s ‘TechSydney’ (one word), not ‘Tech Sydney’ (No. We’re not sure either...)
